Psychotherapy and Geopolitics

 Psychotherapy and Geopolitics

I imagined this when I first read Tanya Luhrmann's "Of Two Minds", Chapter-5 'Where the Split Came From' (p.230).

Image Description: This is a drawing with many components. It starts with a map of the USA, with a thought bubble: " Everyone listens to me." There are two men ( without facial features), one on the left holding a big pill with BIG PHARMA cops written on it and the other on the right holding a poster that reads INSURANCE COMPANIES. Both are saying in their speech bubble, " Let's fund research to establish Gold Standards to treat mental distress". The insurance guy is thinking" I'll go bankrupt if I insure psychodynamic therapy " and "Insurance can be claimed only for certain kinds of therapies". There are four front pages of journals. The first one says, "medicines+CBT/IPT first line of treatment." The second says, "therapy+medicines more effective than...". The third says, "16 sessions of CBT and/or IPT efficacious for..." and the fourth says, "RCTs and meta-analyses confirm this..." Below these are two people and a dodo. The man with a beard is saying, "Psychodynamic therapy is also evidence-based," and the woman is saying, " Are lived experiences also considered?". The dodo is saying, "What about the verdict in my name?" (Referring to the dodo bird verdict).
